CEDAR STREET

PLANS

The transformation of the house on Cedar St. seems to have struck a chord with people.  Prospective clients have often commented that, "If you can sort out what to do with that house, then you can definitely help me with mine!"  This was my first foray into designing and producing plans for an entire project.  I had been using 3D models for a while to help clients visualize details, and work out difficult structural/spatial problems.  The software I was using then developed the ability to take those models and use them as the basis for construction documents.  Designing the projects we build was just the logical next step.  Looking at these plans 10 years later, I can see in them my desire to use 3D capabilities to make the design jump off the page.  So much information can be conveyed by just turning a model 45°.  As I was the one swinging the hammer on this one, the level of detail is pretty light.  In subsequent years, I have produced many plans for projects built by other builders.  While this has lead me to adopt a more "industry standard" style, the basic philosophy that the drawings should convey as much context as possible, is evident in every plan set since.  Plans drawn by builders for builders.
